How to Remove the Rear Wheel

The how-to guide is proved for information purposes only.   The guide assumes you have general mechanical knowledge and have the ability to remove and replace components on your motorcycle.  If you have any questions or are not comfortable doing the work contact a professional mechanic. Keep all stock parts from your existing system as some components may be necessary to install your new British Customs Products depending on the application. 

Read through the guide prior to beginning to remove any components.  Always properly support the vehicle with a stand and/or lift when servicing or performing any work. Unstable vehicles my present dangerous conditions and may cause property damage and/or personal injury

Step By Step Guide - How to Remove the Rear Wheel

1. Support the motorcycle, using a motorcycle jack or flat jack

2. Remove the factory Exhaust (see How to Remove the Factory Exhaust)

3. Using a 5mm Allen remove (2) bolts that secure the chain guard to the swingarm.  

4. Raise the motorcycle until the rear wheel is no longer touching the ground.  

5. Using a 27mm socket, loosen the wheel axle nut.

6. Using a 13mm wrench, loosen the lock nuts on the left and right-hand chain adjuster bolts

7. Remove the axle nut, washer and left and right chain adjuster. Support the rear wheel, remove the axel and lower the rear wheel to the ground.    

8.  Push the wheel towards the front of the bike and remove the drive chain

Note:  Place a cloth on the swingarm and rest the chain on the swingarm until ready to remove the rear wheel to prevent damaging the swingarm finish.  

9. Remove the rear wheel, brake caliper and brake carrier from the swingarm.  Properly support the brake caliper to avoid damaging the brake hose.  Do not let the brake caliper hang by the brake hose.  

Pro Tip:  Place chain adjuster blocks, wheel spacers, axel, axel nut, and axel washer in the order they were removed into the rear wheel.  This will ease assembly and ensure you place the spacers in the correct position.      

Note: Do not rest the wheel on the brake disk, to avoid damaging the brake disk.  

Note: Do not rest the wheel in an area where the dirt or debris can enter the wheel bearing.
